Two drones build a bridge strong enough for humans

Posted in Technology

A team of scientists have taught several drones to build a rope bridge suspended from a pair of scaffold platforms. The experts from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology even get the drones to ‘braid’ the rope around itself.

According to the Flying Machine Arena’s website, the room “consists of a high-precision motion capture system, a wireless communication network, and custom software executing sophisticated algorithms for estimation and control.”

To build the bridge, each aircraft is outfitted with a motorized spool and plastic tubes that allow the aircraft to dispense Dyneema, a low-weight, high-strength material the video’s description calls “suitable for aerial construction.”
