AnkerBox: It Helps To Rent A PowerBank Rather Than Buy One

Posted in General, and Mobile/Tablet

The AnkerBox houses 6 rechargeable power banks that have built in lightning cables (presumably a microUSB or USB C option would eventually be available) and offer a 6,700 mAh capacity, enough to easily charge up a phone or small tablet while you’re on the go. The idea is that these “kiosks” would be placed at businesses such as coffee shops, restaurants, gyms, or bars where you could use the power bank to charge up while you’re doing something.

That’s not to say you can only use the power bank within that establishment however. You can take the power bank out and return it to any other AnkerBox around the city. How do you actually rent for these though? It’s actually pretty simple.

As a user you’ll simply download an application that connects your phone to a nearby AnkerBox. Enter in the code seen on the AnkerBox in front of you, pick the power bank you want, and you can then use it. You’ll be able to use it for 30 minutes without paying or $1.99 per day to rent it. You’ll continue to be charged until the power bank is return. You can also buy the power bank if you decide to keep it for $30.

Anker is kicking off a trial of this program in Seattle starting April 15th where they’ve partnered with over 200 locations to house separate AnkerBox units.
