Huawei announced Nova and Nova Plus Smartphone

Huawei Nova and Nova Plus Smartphone announced at IFA 2016. The Nova features a 5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 625 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera with an 8-megapixel front counterpart, 32GB of storage, and a 3,020mAh battery.

Nova:

The 5-inch 1080p display helps the phone to remain compact and it’s bright and detailed. Colors are vibrant, there’s plenty of brightness, and pixels are indistinguishable. Huawei could easily have opted for a 720p panel here to cut costs, but I’m glad it didn’t. The display is covered in a sheet of 2.5D glass that curves round the edges ever so slightly.

Flip the device over and you’ll discover a nice, grippy texture along with a fingerprint scanner that sits bang in the center of the rear panel. In typical Huawei fashion, the fingerprint scanner is super-fast and unlocks the phone almost the moment you brush your digit across the pad. It can be used for gestures, too, such as bringing up the notifications panel or skipping through photos.

On the software side of things, Huawei’s custom UI – known as EMUI – sits on top of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. EMUI certainly isn’t for everyone, and while it has seen improvements recently in both form and function.

There’s no app drawer, the icons are ugly and notifications panel is frustrating and feels out of place. On the plus side it’s at least fluid, and you can always add your own launcher.

Huawei Nova priced at €399 (29834.14 approx.) and will be available in October.

Nova Plus:

The Nova Plus sports a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD 2.5D curved glass display with 1500:1 contrast ratio, 450 nits brightness. It is powered by Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 processor (4 xA53 at 2.0 GHz + 4 x A53 at 2.0 GHz) with Adreno 506 GPU and comes with 3GB RAM, 32GB internal memory that can be expanded with microSD. The phone runs Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) with  EMUI 4.1 on top.

The phone has a earpiece at the front along with the usual set of proximity and ambient light sensors. There is a 8 MP front facing camera along with LED notification. There is a Huawei branding on the bezel which is curved around the edges. The phone has three on screen touch buttons.

The power/lock button and volume rockers are present on the right side. On the left side you have hybrid Dual SIM slot (nano+nano/microSD). The phone measures 151.8×75.7×7.3mm and weights 160g.

Loudspeaker grills and a USB Type C port are present at the bottom. A 3.5mm audio jack and a microphone are present on the top. At the back the phone has a 16MP rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF, OIS. A fingerprint sensor is present just below the camera module.

The Nova Plus sports a unibody metal design that offers a premium look. Connectivity options on the phone include 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, USB Type-C. It comes with a 3340mAh battery.

Huawei Nova Plus comes in Prestige Gold, Mystic Silver and Titanium Grey colors. It is priced at 429 Euros(US$ 478 / Rs. 32010 approx.)

Both the Nova and Nova Plus will be available in gold, silver, and titanium, and Huawei will make them available in as many as 50 markets starting this October.
