DataWind PocketSurfer GZ — Another affordable smartphone from DataWind. Similar to their Android tablets, which are priced quite affordably, the DataWind PocketSurfer GZ smartphone comes in at Rs. 1499 and you get 1-year free internet as well.
Mr. Tuli further added, “Hands-free communication has become extremely important and we feel strongly that this technology should reach every corner of the world. DataWind aims to breaks the affordability barriers and bandwidth constraints of networks touching the mass of India at a whole new level.”
“We are focused on driving the cost downward to a level where access to technology becomes universally affordable and democratization of technology finds its true meaning. Therefore, this new launch of smartphone at just Rs 1499 is a step in that direction. This will certainly enhance the connectivity in the developing nations,” said Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of DataWind in a press statement.
The company didn’t reveal much apart from that the phone has a touchscreen and it possibly runs on linux operating system. There is a rear camera here with flash too, but a front facing camera would probably be too much to ask at this price. Anyways, this won’t be a phone for gaming but casual use and web browsing. The one year free internet might be 2G or 3G network but we can’t complain at this price. Stay tuned for more information.
