Google has finally revealed the name for its next version of Android N as Android Nougat. Nougat is a family of confections made with sugar or honey, roasted nuts, whipped egg whites, and sometimes chopped candied fruit(Places of origin is Middle East, Spain). The company revealed the name on Snapchat for the first time.
Earlier in the day, the company had shown off the various statues representing the all the dessert-named versions of Android, before the uncovering the new statue for Android N in a short video story.

That’s certainly less exciting that Nutella, but also better than some user-chosen names, so I guess we’ll take it. Realistically, Nutalla probably would have involved some licensing woes (though they managed to do it for Kit Kit).
Here’s the rundown of every Android nickname we’ve had:
- Cupcake: Android 1.5
- Donut: Android 1.6
- Eclair: Android 2.0-2.1
- Froyo: Android 2.2
- Gingerbread: Android 2.3.3 to 2.3.7
- Ice Cream Sandwich: Android 4.0.3 to 4.0.4
- Jelly Bean: Android 4.1 to 4.3
- KitKat: Android 4.4r
- Lollipop: Android 5.0 to 5.1
- Marshmallow: Android 6.0
- Nougat: Android ??? (Probably 6.1 or 7.0)
