Samsung Gear 3 SmartWatch launched at IFA 2016. There are two variants this time with minimal differences – Classic and Frontier. Other than the design, the Frontier edition includes LTE.
Gear S3 features a slightly bigger 46mm casing and a 1.3-inch display (360 x 360 resolution) compared to 44mm and 1.2-inches on the S2. Samsung says the big size allows them to add core essentials customers desire from a smarter watch and it’s “on trend in the luxury watch space right now.”
As far as specifications are concerned, both the versions are IP68 rated for water/sand resistance, the display is protected by a super scratch resistant Gorilla Glass SR+.and they’re powered by Dual-Core Exynos chipsets, 786MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, dedicated GPS component, Bluetooth, WiFi and a 380mAh battery which Samsung claims can last up to roughly 3-4 days. Speaking of battery, there are two new power saving modes, one that turns on at 15% and the other at 5% that shuts everything down to show merely the time for a day.
The Gear S3 Frontier also packs built-in LTE radio along with a microphone and speaker to make HD voice calls. Additionally, the Super AMOLED panel up front can now show 16 million different colors on for always-on watch faces unlike the limited collection on S2. Moreover, there’s NFC for Samsung Pay transactions and Samsung boast’s that the Tizen app store will constitute over 10,000 apps (currently there are 9000) when the S3 launches.
