The Right Cup is a fruit flavored cup that tricks the brain into thinking your plain water is flavored. The Right Cup is a glass with a scented inner lining that convinces you you’re drinking a sugary fruit juice instead of good old plain H2O. Intended to curb cravings for flavored drinks, the product will help you reach the eight glasses a day of water needed with a rush of flavor.
The Right Cup works:
It’s important to understand the dynamic of how smell affects taste. First the tongue only tastes 5 sensations: sweet, bitter, sour, salty and Umami. The overall taste experience is a result of the interaction of these 5 sensations and the sense of smell. It is estimated that the sense of smell is responsible for approximately 80% of the flavor experience.
When people eat and drink, food and liquids release volatile aromas that travel up from the nose and from inside the mouth, past the sinuses until they reach the nasal epithelium which sends a message to the olfactory bulb that the aromas being smelled are a taste being tasted. The Right Cup’s natural fruit aroma combined with a patented sweet taste technology, gives your brain the total perception you are drinking a fruit flavored water.
The Right Cup Technology:
That material has a proprietary Encapsulated Aroma Release technology that lines the inside of each cup. When you put water in and hold it close to your face to drink, the aroma gets sniffed while the bland water is being chugged down. The smell will “fool” you into thinking you’re drinking a flavored drink.
Many flavored drinks contain sugar and preservatives to maintain a store-friendly shelf-life. While many are made mainly from water, the other ingredients present aren’t always good for the body. Isaac Lavi, the Right Cup’s founder, has been diagnosed with diabetes and was required to steer clear of flavorful drinks. By creating the Right Cup, he makes it possible for people to enjoy actual “flavored water”; that is, it’s flavored while being still purely water.
Each Right Cup can last for six months before the flavors become too faint and the only special instruction is to store the contraption upside down to lock in the food-grade scents. Check out their website here to know more.
