Changhong H2 : Smartphone Identifies materials molecular content

Posted in Android Application, Mobile/Tablet, and Technology

Changhong H2 is built to impress with its high-end specs and innovation. The Chinese phone maker Changhong has created a smartphone that can look inside things for you. Powered by a Spectrometer sensor, the smartphone quickly analyses what the object is and gives you data based on it.

It can give you the sugar content in a fruit, calories in your milkshake or the hydration in your plant. Consumer Physics – the Israeli startup that wants to empower people with a better understanding of their physical world – back in 2014. The company’s first product, SCiO, is a USB-like handheld molecular sensor that can determine the chemical compounds of any material by simply scanning it. It uses the Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) technique to scan objects and liquids.

Chinese mobile brand integrates startup’s molecular scanner to let people determine the chemical make-up of different products

To determine the molecular make-up of different products, people have to open the app and specify the thing they are scanning (for example, apples or strawberries). After using spectrometry to shine a near-infrared light on objects scanned by the app, the phone sends the information to a cloud database which analyses the material in a matter of seconds, and feeds it back to the app.

Users can scan food to determine, for example, water levels, carbohydrates or calories. The SCiO functionality can also verify the authenticity of drugs. What’s more, if people choose to scan themselves, they will get information about their body mass index (BMI).

Smartphone comes with a 6-inch 1080p display while there is an octa-core processor inside with a clocking speed 2.0GHz coupled with 4GB of RAM. The onboard storage is 64GB but not is mentioned about the expandable storage options. There is a 3000mAh battery on the back to power this 6-inch device, and importantly the SCiO sensor is also included which placed on the rear side. The Changhong H2 debuted at the 2017 CES in Las Vegas and is scheduled to go on sale in China in June for the reported price of $435.
